Synopsis 시놉시스
건성으로 대하는 어머니와의 껄끄러운 저녁 식사 후, 아이코는 삶의 의미를 찾아 일본을 떠나 베트남으로 향한다. 쌀국수 한 그릇, 염전, 바다 파도처럼 소박하고 정적인 순간들을 통해 그녀는 잊고 지냈던 감정들과 다시 연결된다. 아이코는 사랑과 삶의 의미가 종종 가장 평범한 일상 속에 존재한다는 사실을 깨달아 간다. 집으로 돌아온 그녀는 한때 아득하게만 느껴졌던 것들이 사실은 언제나 그 자리에 있어 다시 느껴지길 기다리고 있었을 뿐이라는 희미한 희망을 가슴에 품는다.
After a tense dinner with her absent-minded mother, Aiko leaves Japan for Vietnam in search of meaning. Through simple, quiet moments a bowl of pho, salt fields, ocean waves she reconnects with forgotten emotions. Gradually, she realizes that love and meaning often exist in the most ordinary details. Returning home, she carries a fragile hope that what once felt distant was always there, waiting to be felt again.

Phan Bao Tuan은 호치민 시립 연극영화대학교에서 연출을 전공한 베트남의 신예 영화 감독이다. 그의 작품들은 주로 인물의 무의식 속으로 파고들어 깊이 묻힌 기억과 눈에 보이지 않는 감정, 그리고 문화적 교차 공간 속에서 일어나는 사람과 자연, 인간과 인간 사이의 정적인 연결 고리를 탐구한다.

Phan Bao Tuan is a young filmmaker from Vietnam, graduating with a Directing degree from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema. His works often delve into the subconscious of characters, exploring deeply buried memories, invisible emotions, and the quiet connections between humans and nature, as well as between people especially within culturally intersecting spaces.
His artistic style embraces minimalism and restrained dialogue, placing importance on observation and listening to the simplest elements of life those that seem invisible but are fundamentally essential. He often draws inspiration from cultural intersections or from the smallest things that carry profound emotional and mnemonic depth.
“A Taste Like Nothing” is his graduation short film and also his debut, marking a personal cinematic direction that builds an introspective world, where imagery, silence, and the sounds of daily life become the primary tools for expressing what words cannot convey. Phan Bao Tuan’s cinematic language is known for its poetic minimalism gentle and contemplative, yet filled with lingering sorrow and haunting resonance. He aspires to create cinema that listens to silence, and makes the invisible felt.
