Synopsis 시놉시스
서울 한양도성 안쪽에 위치한 역사 깊은 주거지인 교남동은 일제강점기 이전부터 현대 민주화 시대에 이르기까지 한국이 거쳐온 변천사를 상징적으로 담고 있는 곳이다. 재개발 프로젝트로 인해 현재 철거가 진행 중인 이 동네를 자주 찾았던 두 명의 외국인 감독은 《Urban Suite》의 네 가지 서로 다른 이야기를 통해 시간의 흐름과 그것이 사람과 공간에 남긴 흔적들을 깊이 있게 조명한다.
A historic residential district within the ancient Seoul city walls, Gyonam-dong embodies South Korea's transformation from the pre-Japanese Occupation era to the modern democratization. The Urban Suite's four distinct narratives serve as a meditation on the passage of time and its effects on people and places as experienced by two foreign directors who frequent this district, which is currently under demolition as part of a redevelopment project.

1983년 프랑스에서 태어난 Sébastien Simon은 영화감독이자 부산 동서대학교 국제대학 겸임교수, 그리고 부산국제단편영화제 프로그래머로 활동하고 있다. 프랑스 ESEC 영화학교와 파리 제1대학교 판테온 소르본을 졸업했다. 그는 베를리날레 탈렌츠(2024) 및 부천국제판타스틱영화제 판타스틱 영화학교(2020) 출신이다. 2020년 한국 영화산업에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 부산광역시 명예시민으로 위촉되었다.
Born 1983 in France, Sébastien Simon is a filmmaker, an invited professor at Dongseo University International College in Busan, and a programmer for Busan International Short Film Festival. He graduated from the ESEC film school and from Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents (2024) and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival's Fantastic Film School (2020). In 2020, he became an Honorary Citizen of Busan Metropolitan City for his services to the Korean film industry.
Forest Ian Etsler
Forest Ian Etsler는 미국 인디애나주에서 태어나 서울에서 형성되고, 마포구 망원동을 기반으로 활동하는 휴머니스트 영화 감독이다. 그의 문화융합적 감수성은 흑인 펑크(Funk) 음악, 선종(禪宗) 정원 양식, 그리고 미국 원주민의 미학에서 깊은 영감을 받아 독창적이고 시적인 작품으로 승화된다. 에츨러는 부조리극, 슬랩스틱 코미디, 세계의 종교 및 신화에 뿌리를 두면서도 최종적으로는 영화적 초월주의를 지향한다.
Forest Ian Etsler is an Indiana, USA-born, Seoul-created, Mapo-gu Mangwondong-based, Humanist filmmaker whose cross-cultural sensibilities result in unique, poetic works that draw heavily from Black funk music, Zen gardening and Native American aesthetics. Ultimately, Forest aims at cinematic transcendentalism, while maintaining roots in Theater of the Absurd, slapstick comedy, and world religions/mythology.
